Ratings In For SciFi Friday Season Finales
Viewer numbers for BSG and "Stargate" series slightly down from last summer
Although the major network shows have over a month to run before they end their current seasons, the SciFi Channel has wrapped up production on its SciFi Friday series "Battlestar Galactica," "Stargate SG-1" and "Stargate Atlantis" for another year. And fans made sure they didn't miss the season finales, according to GateWorld and SciFi Wire.
The future of "Battlestar Galactica" on the SciFi Channel has been the subject of speculation recently after it was announced that the start of the third season has been pushed back from the summer to October. Some commentators have suggested that this could herald the show's switch to the NBC network, which owns the SciFi Channel.
If that is what NBC executives are considering, they will probably be pleased with the ratings for the final episode of Season 2, "Lay Down Your Burdens, Part 2" (reviewed here on Airlock Alpha). The episode received a 1.9 Nielson rating, which matched the average for new episodes aired this winter. Although this was slightly down on the season average of 2.0 and 0.2 points lower than the average rating for new episodes last summer, "Battlestar Galactica" remains the SciFi Channel's highest rated show.
"Stargate Atlantis" finished its second season with the episode "Allies," which got a 1.8 rating. Like the "Galactica" finale, it matched the average rating for winter episodes and was 0.2 points lower than the average for new episodes last summer. It was also slightly down on the 1.9 season average. The third season of "Stargate Atlantis" will begin in July.
"Stargate SG-1," which will start an unprecedented 10th season in July, had a 1.9 rating for its finale "Camelot." This was slightly up on the season average of 1.8 and 0.2 points higher than the average for new episodes this past winter. Again, however, it was lower than the average rating last summer, which was 2.0.
