Stargate Goes Where No Franchise Has Gone Before

"SG-1" makes sci-fi history, and "Atlantis" returns.

Principal photography recently began in Vancouver, British Columbia, on "Stargate SG-1," which will make sci-fi history this summer when the show begins airing its landmark tenth season, according to gateworld.net.

"SG-1" will then become the longest-running science-fiction series in U.S. television history. Actors Ben Browder, Amanda Tapping, Michael Shanks, Christopher Judge and Beau Bridges are expected to return for the 20-episode season, although Tapping and Shanks may miss a few due to new family additions or make appearances on "Atlantis," the franchise's other successful show.

The cast will welcome Claudia Black as a regular member, as she returns to portray Vala Mal Doran. The character will be seen in the last two episodes of the ninth season, to be shown in early March.

The "Stargate Atlantis" team also began production, with Joe Flanigan, Torri Higginson, David Hewlett, Rachel Luttrell, Paul McGillion and Jason Momoa returning to kick off the show's third year. "Atlantis" will also run 20 new episodes in the coming season.

Principal photography has been scheduled to take place from February 20 to October 10, 2006.

Look for the tenth season of "SG-1" and year three of "Atlantis" to premiere in mid-July on the SciFi Channel. The concluding episodes of both shows will air on Fridays until their season finales on Friday, March 10, on the SciFi Channel.
