Batman, Superman Soaring into Sequels

The Man of Steel and the Caped Crusader to again make theater box office magic.

Batman has only just begun, and Superman hasn't even returned yet, but the two DC Comics heroes are both expected to come back for movie sequels, according to SciFi Wire.

Warner Bros., which owns DC Comics, is pursuing director Christopher Nolan to bring Batman back, and Bryan Singer, who is helming "Superman Returns," to continue the adventures of the Man of Steel after the film debuts on June 30, according to Variety.

Neither deal has been completed yet, though. However, both look promising. For example, Warner Bros. has Jonah Nolan, Christopher's brother, working on the screenplay for the next "Batman" sequel. The studio already has contracts with Christian Bale, who starred in "Batman Begins," and Brandon Routh, who plays the Man of Steel in "Superman Returns," to continue in upcoming movies featuring the well-known characters.

Although the next "Batman" motion picture is naturally ahead of "Superman" because "Batman Begins" was released last summer, plans are being formulated for Singer to put together a "Superman" sequel soon after he completes work on his remake of "Logan's Run," which is slated to begin production this fall.

Look for the next "Batman" film to wing into theaters in 2008, with "Superman" flying again in 2009.
