'Lost,' 'Battlestar Galactica' Get AFI Nods

Shows included on official list of best programs of 2005

The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences may not know what "Battlestar Galactica" is, but the American Film Institute does.

"Battlestar Galactica" was one of 10 shows chosen by AFI as the best on television in 2005. The SciFi Channel series is in the middle of its second season, and has won widespread critical acclaim, and have pulled in SciFi Channel's largest audiences for a television series in its late-night Friday timeslot.

Also chosen on the list was ABC's hit series "Lost," which airs Wednesdays. That series, also in its second season, was a surprise rookie hit last year for ABC, and continues to draw large numbers in its sophomore season.

The awards are selected by a 13-member jury that consists of scholars, artists, critics and AFI trustees. AFI promotes the awards as the only national recognition that honors entire production/acting teams as a whole, and not with individual honors.

Other television shows getting nods included "24," HBO's "Deadwood," "Grey's Anatomy," "House," "Rescue Me," "Sleeper Cell," "Sometimes in April" and "Veronica Mars."
