Hyams Helms Second Hour Of 'Threshold'

"A Sound of Thunder" director returns to television after 20 years

Peter Hyams, best known for directing feature films such as "Timecop," "Outland," "2010" and the upcoming "A Sound of Thunder," will return to television after a 20-year absence to direct the second hour of the "Threshold" premiere on CBS, according to SciFi Wire.

Series co-creator and executive producer David Goyer, who wrote the feature film, "Batman Begins" and helmed "Blade: Trinity," directed the first hour and expected to continue with the second until he received word that his next movie, "The Invisible," had been given the go-ahead.

"I had to immediately start preproduction on that, so I had to find a replacement really fast," Goyer said. "And one of the things that we liked was that people had seen the first hour and thought it had more of a cinematic quality, so we thought we have to find a feature director to do the second hour. Who's available?"

Goyer said, "I find out Peter Hyams was available, so I just called him and said, 'Can you help us out?' He said OK."

Hyams' only other television directing job was when he helmed an episode of "Steven Spielberg's Amazing Stories," which aired in the 1980s.

"We would love for him to come back," Goyer said. "He did a great job. He's a really sweet guy, and he had a great experience as well. We would love for him to do more."

Goyer's film, "The Invisible," will focus on the experiences of a teen who, after being left for dead after an attack, discovers he's in limbo, unable to be seen by the living around him. He finds he has to return to his body before he completely perishes, but he needs the help of the troubled girl who injured him to do it. Actors Justin Chatwin from "War of the Worlds" and Margarita Levieva are in negotiations to star in the film.

Co-created by "Star Trek: Enterprise" executive producer Brannon Braga, "Threshold" follows the adventures of a top-secret government group assigned to investigate the appearance of an alien object over the ocean. The series will star Carla Gugino, Brian Van Holt, Brent Spiner and Charles S. Dutton and will premiere on Friday, September 16 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on CBS.
