Peter Weller Reveals His EnterpriseRole

Actor says he was enlisted by Manny Coto

As the series comes to a close, UPN have announced that the final Star Trek: Enterprise arc will feature humanitys xenophobic reaction to the ever-growing alien presence on Earth. It also will introduce the character of John Frederick Paxton, played by Peter Weller, known for his role as the original Robocop.

"He's a xenophobe," Weller said at the wrap party for the cast and crew. "Isolationism is one thing, but he's actively pursuing the cleansing of planet Earth by ridding 'Terra Prime,' or Earth, of any alien impurity whatsoever. It kind of rings of some people walking around on this planet today."

Weller said that Enterprises co-executive producer Manny Coto enlisted his participation because of their previous work on the cancelled series Odyssey 5.

"We became fast friends, and he browbeat me and browbeat me into coming onto 'Enterprise' and guest-starring on a couple of episodes," Weller said. "When he finally told me they were going to be the last two on planet E, I said I might as well put my feet in the cement of immortality and go to the Paramount lot and shoot the next-to-the-last two episodes ever of 'Enterprise.'

Weller also added that he saw relevance in his xenophobic character's separatist behavior and that the grate thing about the Trek franchise is that the events of the future are always relevant in todays climate.

"There's a lot of xenophobes walking around today who say, 'Only us, not them.' The bad news about that ... is that the great thing about the world is that people move," he said. "Rome tried to build walls to keep the people from moving, but the people will move. If they think they've got a good gig someplace, they will go there, and you can regulate it, but you can't stop it."

Weller will first appear in "Demons" which airs May 6, followed by "Terra Prime" on May 13.

"Star Trek: Enterprise" airs Fridays at 8 p.m. ET on UPN. Its series finale will air after "Terra Prime" on May 13.
