Can Erik Jendresen Reinvent Star Trek?
Writer to take on 11th Star Trek film
Paramount Pictures continues to claim that despite the cancellation of its low-rated UPN series "Star Trek: Enterprise," the Star Trek franchise really is alive and well. So much, a prequel movie project -- the 11th Star Trek film -- is in the works for 2007.
Erik Jendresen has been named the movie's writer. A virtual unknown, Jendresen was working on a film "The Hot Zone," based on the book by Richard Preston, but production on that movie ended in 2003 when David Siegel and Scott McGehee left the project.
Most recently, he wrote the screenplay for "Aloft," which is being directed by Robert Redford based on the book by Alan Tennant.
Jendresen's best-known project was the HBO series "Band of Brothers," writing the first, fifth and 10th parts.
It is not clear who will direct the next movie, but Internet Movie Database is reporting that Cliff Bole -- best known for his television directing work in genre shows like "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" and "The X-Files." However, it is not clear if this information is accurate, as Paramount has not made any official announcement on a director.
Executive Producer Rick Berman has said that the next film will be a "prequel" film that will not involve "Star Trek: Enterprise" or its cast.
