EnterpriseAmong The Top 25 Shows

PLUS: Rick Berman discusses the new season

It has gone through a few changes over the last few years, including a yearlong arc and restoring the "Star Trek" title, but was it enough to bring the series back from the brink of cancellation?

In an interview in Star Trek Magazine, Star Trek: Enterprise executive producer Rick Berman discusses the current season of the series and the move to UPNs Friday night lineup.

"I think everybody is pleased that we've managed to hold onto most of our audience event though we've moved to Friday," he said. "One interesting thing is something that I saw published by the TiVo company - a list of the 100 most season passed shows, shows that people put on a season pass, and Star Trek Enterprisewas No. 25. It was way ahead of some very major shows. That says that a lot of people are going out on Friday nights, but TiVo-ing the shows. So I think our true number of viewers may be bigger than the Nielsen ratings might suggest."

Berman also went on to talk about something which is causing a lot of controversy in the Trek fandom -- the possibility of seeing the return of William Shatners Capt. James T. Kirk to the series.

"It's still in discussion. It's totally out of our hands," Berman said. "It's something that's happening between agents and attorneys. I'm not very optimistic, but it's not totally dead. Someone joked to me that I should talk to Rene Auberjonois, who's co-starring with Shatner on Boston Legalinto talking Shatner into coming onto the show."

Berman also touched upon the criticism from Jolene Blalock (T'Pol), who expressed a distaste over the way her character's development was handled in previous seasons when Berman was in command.

"We've dealt with actors over the years who, for whatever reason, mouth off a bit in interviews," Berman said, possibly referring to the vocality of Robert Beltran over his character of Chakotay in the "Star Trek: Voyager" series. "Very often things are taken out of context or come across not necessarily as they were intended to sound. She has obviously shown a little frustration in some of the interviews she's done. I think it's unfortunate, but it's not unusual."

Berman also shed some light on the potential movie which is being developed, stating that it isnt dead, but it's still to early to discuss. And as for Season 4 of "Enterprise," it seems that there are some more standalone episodes to come as well as a terrific story arc focusing on the Romulans which Garfield and Judy Reeves Stevens have done some wonderful work.
