Warner Bros. To Bring The Flash To Big Screen
Expected to include 'Blade's' David Goyer
There may be a day when all movies released to the big screen are based on comic books.
Even though that future hasn't quite arrived, we are living in a time when a lot of movies based on comic books are being made. And this time, we're referring to the DC Comics character The Flash.
According to Moviehole, Ryan Reynolds -- who recently starred in "Blade: Trinity" -- could be taking on the character of The Flash in an upcoming motion picture based on the comic book character.
David Goyer, who recently wrote and directed "Blade: Trinity," said that Warner Bros. was happy with his "Batman Begins" script, and offered him a chance to do a movie based on either The Flash or Green Lantern.
"I said I would love to do 'The Flash,'" Goyer said. "I think there's a lot of cinematic possibilities that nobody's ever done. I'm interested in really pushing it, and dealing with relativity, so near the ned of the story, he's going to be like arriving before he left, and all sorts of weird and cute little stuff."
A lot of Goyer's recent work has been dark, including the latest Batman and Blade movies. However, he said doing 'The Flash' would be a lot lighter. While Reynolds isn't confirmed to take on the role, Goyer said that he would be interested in having the actor portray Wally West.
"If that were to come to fruition, it would depend on a lot of things, but one of them wouldn't involve auditioning," Reynolds said. "Wally West is a guy that likes to have a bit of fun in his life, he's a little bit sarcastic, a little bit acerbic, but I'd love to inject a little bit more heart into Wally. I think it'd be really cool.
"I mean, David explained the story to me. Wow, holy shit. His rough story for 'The Flash' is just fucking mind-boggling. I hesitate to say it's one of the best script stories I've heard for a long, long time."
Goyer has been involved as a writer in all three Blade movies, directing the third.
Outside of "Blade: Trinity," Reynolds has a limited genre resume. He did appear as Jay "Boom" DeBoom in a 1996 episode of "The X-Files." He also appeared in a 1995 episode of "The Outer Limits."
No casting or production schedule for the movie has been announced.
