Will 'War Of The Worlds' Go On Location?

A million to one they said :they were wrong

"War Of The Worlds," a book which is considered one of the best science-fiction stories of all time and has been adapted into a radio broadcast and later a live- action movie, is about the be reincarnated yet again. And this time, it's the directorial talents of Steven Spielberg who is bringing the classic by sci-fi great H.G. Wells to life.

According to the Jersey Journal, Spielberg may actually be filming the movie in Bayonne, N.J., which is the actual geographical setting in the story itself.

"Several city officials said they were told by studio representatives that Spielberg and company want to build a structure, probably a gas station or auto body shop, on the Little League field on the south side of First Street near Kennedy Boulevard, and then blow it up," the Journal reported.

The newspaper also added that residents within the downtown area of the city have been approached, and many have received fliers requesting the use of homes and gardens for actors use during the actual filming of the project.

The film, of which the original radio broadcast started a panic due to the dramatic news reading which started the story, is likely to begin filming next month, finishing at some point in November for a June 2005 opening.

The film was moved ahead on the schedule, which some speculate could be because of an independent "War of the Worlds" film project that was completed earlier this year, and has a limited spring release expected. That film is a direct adaptation of the book, set in the 19th century, while the Spielberg/Tom Cruise project will be a modernized version.
