AVP Opens Big In American Box Office
Dispite mixed reviews, Paul W.S. Anderson provides the goods
After the disastrous last entries of both franchises, "Alien vs. Predator" is proving theres still life left in the old dogs.
Storming in to the No. 1 spot with a three-day taking of $38.3 million, the $60 million dollar film beat out last year's August opening of "Freddy vs. Jason" ironically, another hugely anticipated melding of franchises.
Other films on the chart, "The Princess Diaries 2," rests at No. 2 with Tom Cruise at third place with "Collateral."
The premiere of "Yu-Gi-Oh!" took fourth place with $9.4 million leaving "The Village" at No. 6 behind "The Bourne Supremacy" after a drop of more than 57 percent in takings.
