Fox Boots Bryan Singer From X-Men Franchise

Director's attachment to 'Superman' prompted action

He was the master mind behind both X-Men movies, based on the popular Marvel comics, but now it seems Bryan Singer will no longer be a part of the franchise, or even Twentieth Century Fox, who have terminated their production contract with the director.

Singer has switched sides and is now working for Warner Bros to produce a new Superman film, based on the comics by Marvels rival, DC Comics. According to rumors, Tom Welling, star of The WB Superman series "Smallville," based on the adventures of Clark Kent as a teenager, has been approached by Singer about starring in the movie.

But it doesnt end there, Variety has reported that Singer also is attached to the remake of the classic 1970s sci-fi movie "Logans Run," which originally starred Michael York, who has made guest appearances on several cult shows, including
"Sliders," "Babylon 5" and "SeaQuest DSV."

According to reports, Fox reportedly has asked Singer to clean out his offices on the Fox lot in Century City, Calif.

Reports from an inside source also claim that the deal which as struck between Singer and Warner Bros was not an expensive one, as Singer only develops projects he plans on shooting, whereas other producers have multiple projects on the go at any one time, some of which never reach production.

As a result of Singers move, the proposed "X-Men 3" is now on hold. But according to Variety, Singer said he would be happy to be involved in the production side of the project, should it go ahead.

It seems unlikely that Fox will pull the plug on the X-Men franchise, which has been highly successful for the studio. It is unclear, however, whether longtime Singer collaborator Tom DeSanto -- who is working on a "Transformers" movie for DreamWorks and Paramount -- will continue as a producer in the X-Men franchise.
