Jack Ryan Dropping Out Of Senate Race

Former husband of 'Voyager's' Jeri Ryan

Jack Ryan, the Illinois Republican senate candidate, is expected to announce that he will be dropping out of the senate race. The announcement comes days after divorce papers between he and his former wife, Jeri Ryan (Seven of Nine, "Star Trek: Voyager"), were released, depicting unusual charges against Jack Ryan.

Jack Ryan, 44, had canceled a plan trip Thursday to Washington, where he was supposed to meet with Majority Leader Bill Frist. Frist had refused to offer words of encouragement for Ryan, who was accused by his former wife of going to sex clubs and trying to get her to engage in sex publicly.

The allegations are more than four years old, and Jack Ryan has denied them, saying that they were part of a bitter custody battle over the couple's son.

Jeri Ryan released a statement this week after the divorce records were unsealed, calling Jack Ryan a "good friend" and a good father, but she did not retract the statements she made in the divorce proceedings.

"The recent allegations are disappointing to me, and I think disappointing to him and disappointing to his supporters," Frist said. "I have not talked to hi since last Thursday before all of this was made public, so I don't know what his intentions are at this point, and I will let him make whatever decisions he has to make at this juncture."
