'Enterprise' Owes You Its Thanks

The Enterprise Project thanks all the fans for their help

Trek fans everywhere can relax for a whole season, as UPN announced it will be renewing "Star Trek: Enterprise" for a fourth season. The decision was made partially as a result of the devotion shown by the fans of the show worldwide, and especially at the long-standing Enterprise Project.

Well, officials for The Enterprise Project said they grateful for the renewal, and recently sent its thanks to UPN, Paramount Television, and parent company Viacom.

"We're pleased to hear that they've actually listened to the fans," said MJ Rogers, founder of the project, which they say is the largest and longest-running organized fan group working to keep "Enterprise" on the air. "Although the ratings haven't been as high as those for some other shows, we don't believe that the ratings accurately reflect the show's viewership, and the outpouring of support for the show reflects that."

Support for the show has come from many sources, including Enterprise Project members writing to UPN, who worked at science fiction conventions handing out literature and running panels, and they have even placed full-page advertisements in the Hollywood Reporter supporting the show and demanding its renewal.

Another advertisement from the group and from other "Star Trek: Enterprise" fans will run in the May 25 edition of the Hollywood Reporter - the day before the airing of the third season finale - as a way of thanking UPN for renewing the series.

"Trek fans have been reputed to be argumentative and ungrateful in the past," Rogers said. "We want to get rid of that image."

The project also is sponsoring a thank you campaign aimed at UPN, as a way of letting the network know just how appreciative the fans of the series truely are.

Rogers also mentioned that credit for the lobbying of UPN and Viacom doesnt belong solely to members of Enterprise Project, but also to thousands of fans who worked to help keep the series on the air.

"This doesn't mean that Season 5 is guaranteed either," Rogers said. "Sometimes the price of Trek is eternal vigilance by fans."

More than 40 fan-led groups have assisted Enterprise Project in promoting the show and sponsoring ads at conventions over the last year, and project organizers also thanked them for all of their work.
