It's Official: 'Enterprise' Moves To Fridays
Network confirms fourth-season renewal of series
Fans of "Star Trek: Enterprise" no longer have to wait to see if there is any official word on the status of their current Star Trek series. The show will be returning. It's just moving to a different night.
During its upfront presentations on Thursday, UPN announced that "Enterprise" will in fact return for a fourth season, following reports from the trade papers the day before that the series had been renewed.
According to Zap2it, UPN plans on rerunning an episode of "Next Top Model" in the Friday 8 p.m. slot (the show will take over "Enterprise's" old time slot of Wednesday at 8 p.m. for its regular broadcast), while "Enterprise" will air at 9 p.m. ET.
Speculation over whether the series would continue or not has been going for some time, especially midway through the second season when the network seemed to lose confidence in the series that more than struggled in the ratings.
The second season ended introducing a new story arc that ended up lasting the entire third season, as the Enterprise NX-01 tried to save Earth from a Xindi weapon that threatened to destroy it. Despite the fact that the series has seen stronger writing, according to many critics, fans still had trouble finding their way to the show, especially after The WB put "Smallville" in direct competition with the show.
Also being introduced to Wednesday nights in place of where "America's Top Model" used to be will be a new drama called "Kevin Hill" that will star Taye Diggs and Jon Seda. "WWE Smackdown!" will return once again to fill UPN's Thursday night with two-hour broadcasts.
