UPN To Berman: 'Wrap It Up'
PLUS: Variety is reporting that UPN will indeed renew series for fourth season
Variety is reporting a day before UPN presents its fall schedule that the network has picked up its struggling "Star Trek: Enterprise" series for the fall season, and could possibly be moving the series to Fridays -- something that has been bantied about since last January.
However, how much more Star Trek is UPN expecting out of executive producers Rick Berman and Brannon Braga? As far as Jonathan Archer (Scott Bakula) and his crew, this could be it.
A Paramount source has told Airlock Alpha that while there is a pickup for the fourth season of "Star Trek: Enterprise," any story arcs or other story elements need to be wrapped up by the end of the season. And the production team should be prepared to make the fourth season finale a wrapup.
"There simply is not a lot of confidence that the show will carry over longterm," the source told Airlock Alpha. "While they are hoping the publicity surrounding a new night of programming for UPN will help it as an anchor show, there is not a lot of promise."
Berman has stated in past interviews that the fourth season likely will contain smaller story arcs, that will help new fans get into the show better, unlike the full-season arc that has engulfed the show's current third season.
It is expected that UPN will announce the fourth season pickup as a full season, but the source also said that depending on how ratings come back, the network is ready to pull the series mid-season, and move any unaired episodes to run in the summer.
Please note that none of this information (including the series pickup) has been confirmed by Paramount Television or UPN. So treat it as you would any other rumor.
