Shatner Says He Has Return Idea

Actors wants Kirk character to return

On the heels of a new fan offensive to bring back the character of Capt. James T. Kirk, actor and director William Shatner -- who made the role famous -- says he has his own ideas on how to bring back the character.

Could it involve "Star Trek: Enterprise"? According to Shatner's appearance at the recent Grand Slam convention in Pasadena, Calif., at least "Enterprise" is expected to remain an option on UPN.

"We anticipate that it'll be renewed," Shatner said, basing his statements on apparently conversations he had with executive producer Rick Berman. "Everybody there is 99 percent sure."

But Shatner said he also is ready for Kirk to come back, at least that's what he told eTalk Daily.

"I've written a scenario that I could conceivably come back for a show or two," Shatner said. "But I haven't presented it to them yet because I don't know whether ('Enterprise') is coming back. So, you're learning for the first time that I have in my hip pocket a way of bringing the character back and making it logical in science-fiction terms, which means it's totally illogical."

The Bring Back Kirk campaign is reporting that they have tracked at least 25,000 downloads of the 9-minute fan-made trailer that presents an epic idea on bringing back the Kirk character.
