Gellar, 'Angel' Won't Hook Up
Was available for final episode, but Whedon said no
Sarah Michelle Gellar was available to appear in the final episode of "Angel" that airs in May on The WB, but executive producer and co-creator Joss Whedon killed the idea before it could take place, however.
According to TV Guide Online, Gellar -- best known as Buffy Summers in the "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" television series -- was asked to be in the second-to-last episode, which will air May 5, but her shooting schedule for "The Grudge" wouldn't let her do it.
Gellar's schedule did allow her to be available for the finale -- airing May 19 -- but Whedon said that he didn't want the series end to "revolve around a guest star."
"We will deal with the issue of Buffy and how much she means to Angel (David Boreanaz) and Spike (James Marsters), but I want to end the show with the people who've been in the trenches together, who characters who have lived -- and occasionally died -- together: the regulars."
While Gellar won't be in the May 5 episode, the love triangle between Buffy, Spike and Angel will be resolved.
"Angel and Spike arrive at an understanding," said executive producer Jeffrey Bell. "That's all I'll say about that. (But) without her being involved, Buffy's character has come to some sort of understanding, too."
