Billingsley Says Stakes Need To Be Higher
Will get naked Wednesday on 'Enterprise'
According to actor John Billingsley (Phlox), the exploration crew of the NX-01 on "Star Trek: Enterprise" have had it easy compared to real-life explorers. And if the show wants to improve, that's something that apparently will have to change.
"In the first and second season, we were able to master every situation so perfectly that is just became routine," Billingsley recently told Zap2it. "There have been episodes in which there has been a moral struggle, but when it comes down to brass tacks, we're going to win."
That easy going might become too mundane for some viewers, and even some of the actors ... like Billingsley.
"I have always been interested -- and am still interested, and will be intrested -- in having us lose," Billingsley said. "For the most part, most of the explorers of the world lived short and violent lives. That's the nature of things, of course, but that runs into the demands of network television."
In Wednesday's episode of "Star Trek: Enterprise," Billingsley talks again about getting naked.
"I have a spiny ridge glued onto my back," he said. "There are some striations painted down my front to match my face and hands. Of course, I was hoping there would be other appendages and protuberances, so that people would be walking around in slack-jawed admiration for the rest of the run of the show. After all, I have three wives. What does that suggest? What does that imply?"
"Star Trek: Enterprise" airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET on UPN.
