'Angel' Up, 'Smallville' Remains Steady
Overnight ratings show sameness despite less competition
There was no new "Star Trek: Enterprise" to battle in the 8 p.m. ET timeslot Wednesday night, yet the latest new episode of The WB's "Smallville" virtually stayed the same in overnight ratings compared to two weeks ago (ratings for last week were not available).
"Smallville" pulled in a 5.1 rating/7 share, nearly matching -- if not ending slightly lower -- than its 5.1/8 it picked up two weeks ago. The show continues to take a pounding from Fox's "American Idol," that earned an 18.2/26. "Smallville" tied with a repeat of Donald Trump's reality show "The Apprentice" on NBC.
"Angel" actually is up compared to how it did two weeks ago. With the return of Tom Lenk as Andrew, the The WB program earned a 4.1/5, finishing 7 percent better than it did two weeks ago.
Overall, "Smallville" continues to be in a slump. Since its season premiere, the show has lost 24 percent of its audience.
With February sweeps beginning next month, both "Smallville" and "Enterprise" will be featuring new episodes throughout the month. "Enterprise" will continue in the 8 p.m. ET timeslot against "Smallville" and "American Idol" until March.
