Deal To Make Transformers Soon

Don Murphy to work with X-Men's Tom DeSanto

A live-action Transformers movie is in the making, and there could be a final announcement on who is making the movie come February.

"The Transformers film that I am doing with Tom DeSanto is still on target," said Don Murphy, producer of the film, on his official Web site. "Three studios are discussing a deal as we speak. We hope to conclude a deal within the next month."

For fans afraid that Murphy and DeSanto will screw up the transforming car mythos, the producer says not to worry.

"(We) are going go get this film right, and follow the classic mythology of the show and the comics."

Murphy got his big break with the 1994 film "Natural Born Killers" starring Woody Harrelson and Juliette Lewis. He's also worked on 1998's "Apt Pupil" as well as 2001's "Bully" from director Larry Clark. His most recent work came from 2003's "League of Extraordinary Gentlemen."

DeSanto worked with Murphy on "Apt Pupil," but is best known for his work on "The X-Men" movie franchise.

"The Transformers" is expected to be released in late 2005 or early 2006.
