REPORT: Battlestar Galactica Gets 6 Ep Commitment
Not considered a miniseries, but Sci-Fi still cautious
An announcement about the fate of "Battlestar Galactica" could be coming very soon ... especially with the latest report from Cinescape that Sci-Fi Channel has made a six-episode commitment toward a series.
According to what Cinescape describes as a "trustworthy" and "solid" source in Vancouver where the miniseries that aired in December was shot, the decision to actually order episodes was made a short time ago, even though it's not officially announced as of yet.
While the miniseres was the third-highest-rated original event on the Sci-Fi channel of all time, it still could be one of the expanded cable channel's most costliest shows of all time if they were to continue. That has been one of the only marks of hesitation from the Sci-Fi bean counters since the beginning.
The action is similar to what many networks will do with series, which is order either quarter or half seasons to see if there is an investment. This episode order will not constitute a second miniseries, however, as they can receive a renewal from the cable channel at any time.
Sci-Fi Channel had until the end of this month to option the contracts of the actors, and executive producer Ronald D. Moore told Airlock Alpha earlier this month that he has been in talks with the studio to continue the miniseries event into an actual series.
