Models Killed 'Jake 2.0'
Drama struggled in the ratings from the start
All UPN entertainment president Dawn Ostroff said was that "Jake 2.0" -- which was the leadout show of "Star Trek: Enterprise" -- was on hiatus. However, David Greenwalt -- executive producer of the series -- had his own definition of "hiatus."
"To say we're on hiatus is about the same as saying that O.J. and Nicole Simpson are having a trial separation."
Ouch.
All season, "Jake 2.0" has competed with "The West Wing" on NBC, "Angel" on The WB, "The Bachelor" on ABC, and "The O.C." on Fox. It's numbers were low, but seemed to be somewhat competitive.
However, when UPN tested the time slot with a "America's Next Top Model" rerun, they decided that the problems lie more in the show than the eroded audience.
According to Ostroff, the ratings for "America's Next Top Model" were better than what "Jake 2.0" also was doing.
"When you've got a show like "America's Next Top Model' that costs a tenth of what 'Jake' does, and scores better with a rerun, we're fucked."
There are still four unaired episodes of the series, and a UPN spokesperson declined to say if and when those episodes ever will be aired.
