Is 'Enterprise' Still On Bubble?
PLUS: 'Jake 2.0' gets the ax
Sources may have told Airlock Alpha some time ago that "Star Trek: Enterprise" was not in danger of being cancelled by UPN (original story). However, recent events have apparently started to scare some people on the set again.
In what some are calling a surprise move -- only because UPN executives said it wouldn't happen -- the plug was pulled on "Enterprise" lead out series "Jake 2.0" last week, ending yet another ratings loser (although the show was critically acclaimed).
That move, apparently, has been made contrary to statements in the past that both "Enterprise" and "Jake 2.0" were secure for another season. One source for Cinescape magazine said that because of that change of heart, there is tension on the "Enterprise" set once again.
"Apparently, Trek staffers were assured by higher-ups at UPN, including people in Les Moonves' office, that 'Enterprise' and 'Jake 2.0' were safe," the source said. "After all, 'Jake 2.0' was signed to complete this season's run of episodes.
"But with the hammer coming down on 'Jake' this week, in addition to the 'trimming' of UPN's order of 'Enterprise' episodes this season, Star Trek's executives fear the promises given were disingenuous at best, and are running on 'red alert' mode to save 'Enterprise' from canceellation doom, and this may include shopping the show to another network or cable channel."
Please note that none of this information has been confirmed by Paramount, and should be treated as any other rumor would.
