'Return Of The King' Gets Intermission
Break in middle of film likely will be optional
Apparently, director Peter Jackson either has a lot of extra footage for "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King," or he isn't as interested in releasing a special four-disc edition of the third and final movie.
According to TheFellowship.nl, the final runtime for "The Return of the King" is 200 minutes, 49 seconds. That's nearly 3 1/2 hours.
Projectionists will have fun with this film, as it will be shown on 10 reels, and yes, New Line is suggesting theaters insert some intermission time for this film.
The site reports that if there is an intermission, it will occur at the end of the fourth reel, where "Theoden says to Eowyn, 'And no more despair.'" It returns in the fifth reel with the ride up to "paths of the dead."
"The Return of the King" premieres Dec. 17.
