Siddig Approached For 'Enterprise' Role

PLUS: Sirtis says good-bye to Star Trek

Alexander Siddig, best known for his role as Dr. Julian Bashir on "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine," revealed during a recent chat on his official Web site that he was approached to do some work on "Star Trek: Enterprise," but that he was not interested.

In a chat with his site, Sid City, Siddig -- who is raising a son with his former wife and DS9 actress Nana Visitor (Major Kira Nerys) -- said that he is done with Star Trek.

"My Star Trek time is over, unless they come up with something irresistable," Siddig said. "It gets a little same-y after a while."

Siddig said that "Enterprise" executive producer Rick Berman tried to seek him out to be involved in the show, but that Siddig himself "couldn't be found." In fact, he said he feels the latest Star Trek series could use a lot of work.

"I would like to see them dare to hire some new designers and a new crew for a whole different approach," he said.

Also saying good-bye is "Star Trek: The Next Generation" actress Marina Sirtis. Sirtis, who played Deanna Troi in the series and four movies, said it was hard to say good-bye to the job she has had since 1987. It was after the final movie, "Star Trek: Nemesis" last year, that she realized it was over.

"That was when I had my little psychological shift," Sirtis told Star Trek Monthly (courtesy of Sci-Fi Pulse). "That's when I said, 'OK, it's over. There are no ifs, and no buts. It's over. We're not doing anymore movies. It's been a great 16 years, we've had a wonderful time, but it's time to move on."

Not only is she taking a break, but Sirtis shared with the magazine that she feels Star Trek should take a break as well.

"I think a lot of people are Trekked out, and my personal opinion is that we should give it a rest for awhile," Sirtis said. "Wait five or 10 years time, and then come back with a big new Star Trek and have people get all excited again."
