Jonathan Brandis, Dead At 27

Best known for role on 'SeaQuest DSV'

It continues to be a sad week for actors and writers in the genre, and it continued with a confirmed report Thursday that Jonathan Brandis, 27, died in Los Angeles over the weekend.

The story was first broke by Cinescape, and later was confirmed by the producers of "The Year That Trembled," that Brandis had starred in.

He played Lucas Wolenczek, a character similar to "Star Trek: The Next Generation's" Wesley Crusher on "SeaQuest DSV," which appeared on NBC in the mid-1990s.

"We at Novel City Pictures are deeply saddened and stunned by this, and like many people, we grieve for his loss," a statement read. "Jonathan was a great actor, and our friend. We send our deepest sympathies to his family, his friends and his fans. We all miss him very much."

There was no sign of violence or foul play. However, TV Guide is reporting that preliminary analysis of the scene indicates suicide.

Brandis was born April 13, 1976 in Danbury, Conn. After making guest appearances on series such as "Sledge Hammer!," "L.A. Law" and "Full House," Brandis started to make his mark in the movies, playing Bastian in 1990's "Neverending Story II." Besides SeaQuest, his genre work also included a guest appearance on the Fox series, "Alien Nation." He reportedly also auditioned for the role of Anakin Skywalker in "Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones," only to lose out to Hayden Christianson.
