Star Trek Mourns Loss Of Actress, Writer
Kellie Waymire and Margaret Armen pass away
There has been a lot of death leading up to the American Thanksgiving holiday. One of those deaths was of an actress who died too young.
Kellie Waymire, 35, best known as Ensign Elizabeth Cutler on "Star Trek: Enterprise," died last weekend, according to TrekToday. TV Guide Online reports that Waymire died of natural causes.
Waymire also appeared in the sixth season of "Star Trek: Voyager" episode "Muse." For "Enterprise," she appeared in the episodes of "Strange New World," "Dear Doctor" and "Two Days and Two Nights."
Waymire also had a recurring guest role on the HBO series "Six Feet Under," who played the escort Melissa during the show's second season. She also made appearance on "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation," "NYPD Blue" and "Friends."
Also passing away was one of the first successful female television writers, Margaret Armen. She was 82.
According to Sci-Fi Wire, the writer died Nov. 10 of heart failure at her home in Woodland Hills, Calif.
Among her writing credits, Armen wrote for both "Star Trek" and "Star Trek: The Animated Series."
Armen mostly was a western writer, but took on "Star Trek" since it essentially was a western in space. According to the Writers Guild of America, Armen was introduced to Star Trek thanks to another popular female writer, D.C. Fontana.
"There were a lot of elements of the western in Star Trek," Armen said in a past interview. "Gene Roddenberry was the producer, and he was a wonderful writer himself. It was just like a month in the country to write for Star Trek."
