China Embraces 'The Matrix'
Communist country to join in simultaneous release
How do you stop people from pirating a major film? How about striking a deal with Communists.
That's exactly what Warner Bros. did as they have reached an agreement with the Peoples Republic of China to join in the synchronized global release of "The Matrix: Revolutions" on Nov. 5. According to Variety, it's the first time ever that China has approved an American film for simultaneous release.
The agreement apparently was made between China's Film Bureau and Warner Bros. that will have the film launch at 10 p.m. Beijing time on 100 subtitled prints in major cities. That will match American launch times of 6 a.m. in Los Angeles, 9 a.m. in New York, 2 p.m. in London, 5 p.m. in Moscow and 11 p.m. in Tokyo. Those who don't want to read subtitles in China will be able to watch dubbed versions of the movie a week later.
