Mulgrew Still Wants A Voyager Movie
Says even if it was done for TV, it would be good
One would think with her stage career taking off, Kate Mulgrew would be enjoying her time away from Capt. Kathryn Janeway of "Star Trek: Voyager," last seen in 2002's "Star Trek: Nemesis," but she isn't. In fact, she recently told a press conference at the Galileo Double 7 convention in Germany that she's still trying to pull for a Voyager movie.
"As you know, that's all up to Paramount," Mulgrew said. "I think they're waiting to see what happenes with 'Enterprise,' which I think is probably having a bit of a struggle. And in the wake of 'Nemesis,' they're weighing all the odds. If there's a market for it, they'll do it. And I would love to do it in that eventuality.
"Wouldn't that be good? It would be fun, yeah. Someboday had an interesting idea. They're always doing the feature films, you know. But I think there might be an audience for a television movie or mini-series. A lot of people complained that 'Endgame' was not satisfactory. They felt that we wrapped it up too quickly. There wasn't enough of an explanation, and so maybe an extended version of how should (that) have ended would be a good idea. But that's up to Paramount."
Mulgrew did say that she was proud of Voyager's series finale, saying that she had a hand in the story.
"I know you're all upset, you wanted a big ending," Mulgrew said. "We started out ... very simply. And I wanted to end on a simple, but profound, note. And of great importance to me was that all of the interpersonal relationships be wrapped up, and that one of the Janeways should be sacrificed, and that should be the essence of my legacy. So I was behind it. And I take full responsibility for it."
