Roddenberry Store Remains Closed
Cites legal issues with Paramount Pictures
Fans wanting to visit the store at Roddenberry.com will have to wait a little longer for it to reopen.
Eugene W. Roddenberry, son of the late Star Trek creator that runs the Roddenberry.com store, announced in a letter to friends and customers this week that as of now, the store will remain closed indefinitely.
"I recently received an informal letter from Viacom Consumer Products (Paramount), politely requesting that I remove all prop-related merchandise from the online store, while we jointly examine the legalities in selling such items," Roddenberry said in the letter. "At this point, it is my intention to comply with their request with the hopes of an amicable resolution."
Because of those problems, Roddenberry said he keep the online store closed.
As you know, the Roddenberry family has provided merchandise to collectors, viewers and fans since Star Trek first aired almost 40 years ago," Roddenberry said. "It is my sincerest hope that Paramount and the Roddenberry family can work together to resolve this issue and ocntinue to provide the fans with quality, fair-priced merchandise."
Roddenberry, who also is continuing work on his documentary with Atmosphere Pictures called "Trek Nation," said that he also has approached Paramount with some new ideas that he said he's confident will help rejuvenate Star Trek.
