'World Of Tomorrow' To Be Trilogy

Production to star Gwyneth Paltrow

Science-fiction is going retro, and now it will be a retro trilogy.

"World of Tomorrow," a project being put together by newcomer Kerry Conran, has won enough points with the studio to see a longer life ... even before it is released.

According to a report in Variety, "World of Tomorrow" producer Aurelio de Laurentiis has apparently given Conran the go-ahead to turn his single movie project into a trilogy with two more sequels.

The movie is set in the 1930s in New York City with Gwyneth Paltrow as Polly Perkins, a reporter who is covering the story of the disappearance of a scientist. At the same time, UFOs start to threaten Manhattan.

As the city gets pummelled, Joseph Sullivan (Jude Law) steps in with his Flying Legion and starts to fight them with the help of Perkins. They travel to Nepal to find the scientist, a Dr. Totenkopf, who is hell-bent in destroying the world.

To make this film, Conran has turned "World of Tomorrow" into an almost pure special effects movie. He did everything against bluescreen and wrote his own software to make the film.

"The whole movie is a special affect, even a scene with two people sitting in a room," Conran said. "Really, it's a live-action cartoon."
