Shatner: Yes, He's Serious
The actor believes he can save Star Trek
If he had his choice, Starfleet crews wouldn't have to build ships to get around the Cosmos. They could probably find a much better deal on Priceline.com
OK, that's probably not going through the mind of William Shatner (Capt. James T. Kirk, "Star Trek"), but he really does want to come back to Star Trek. Not as an actor, but as a producer.
While talking with the Calgary Sun, Shatner said that he was developing a concept for a new Star Trek series, but he isn't sure if Paramount Television is even interested. Whatever his idea is, however, he's keeping it secret.
"For the last many years, I've been writing (Star Trek) books that were very successful," Shatner said. "I had an idea that I thought would work if they gave it a shot. The problem is, Paramount owns the rights to anything Star Trek, so even if it was a good idea, I still wouldn't own it. Why bother giving them a good idea when they're going to own it?"
In what will likely force members of the Bring Back Kirk movement to find something else to dio with their time, Shatner said he's almost positive that fans will never see Kirk return to Star Trek again. Of course, he also said that he felt the current producers of "Enterprise" have failed to capture the "spirit of the original 'Star Trek' series."
