Dorn Says TNG Should Do More Movies

Not doing so would be 'kiss of death'

After the box office failure of "Star Trek: Nemesis," most people -- including the cast -- have pretty much all but written off the cast of "Star Trek: The Next Generation" from doing any more films. Well, not everyone.

Michael Dorn, who probably has had a more active life in Star Trek than any other actor, playing the Klingon Worf in seven seasons of "Star Trek: The Next Generation" as well as three seasons of "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" and in five feature films (he played Worf's grandfather in "Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country"), said that Paramount should actually be working on a new movie, and yes, with the TNG cast.

So, could the old crew return for a fifth feature?

"I think so, I really do," Dorn recently told Empire Online's David Bassom. "Let's be honest, Paramount (is) not going to lose money on 'Nemesis.'"

While Paramount Pictures has been quiet about the future of the movie franchise, one rumor that has been rattled about is to replace the crew with new actors and characters, possibly from one of the other spinoffs. This talk picked up more steam when star Patrick Stewart (Capt. Jean-Luc Picard) said that he was no longer interested in doing Star Trek. But Dorn said taking that approach would be wrong.

"I think the people at Paramount are smart enough to know the 'Next Generation' cast has been very popular, and to just say, 'OK, let's forget it, let's start all over again with new faces' would probably be the kiss of death."

But if another movie like "Nemesis" is released, couldn't that be the kiss of death, too? Dorn, however, has an idea on how to revitalize the franchise.

"All they have to do is go back and do another film like 'Star Trek: First Contact' (1996) and everything will be fine," he said. "That was just a perfect Star Trek movie."
