'Smallville' Won't Premiere Until October

That's good news for 'Enterprise'

When the first episode of "Smallville" premieres on The WB for its third season in the Wednesday 8 p.m. timeslot, its main competitor -- UPN's "Enterprise" -- will have a three-episode jump start.

The latest Star Trek series, which will begin its third season Sept. 10, comes in with a new look and new mission, but it's unclear if that will be enough for it to successfully compete with "Smallville," which goes after a similar audience to "Enterprise," and who consistently beat it in the ratings last year. In previous years, "Smallville" aired on Tuesday nights.

While "Enterprise" did beat "Smallville" in both series' first year (by a hundredth of a ratings point), the Superman series has exploded while Star Trek has faded last year, signaling a 2 point different between the two in average ratings.
