'Enterprise' Gets Five Nominations
'Buffy' and 'Firefly' get nominated as well
As expected, genre series were nominated for Emmys only in technical categories, but "Enterprise" added five nominations to Star Trek's overall powerhouse of nominations, bringing the overall total since 1966 to 147 nominations.
The UPN series dominated the Outstanding Special Visual Effects For A Series, earning three nominations in that category for its episodes "Dead Stop," "The Crossing" and "The Expanse." Another UPN show also got a nomination in this category, "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" getting its only nomination for the episode "Chosen."
Those two shows will compete against Fox's cancelled series "Firefly," which earned a nomination in the category for its episode "Serenity." That was the show's only nomination.
"Enterprise" also received a nomination through Dennis McCarthy for Outstanding Music Composition for a Series (Dramatic Underscores) For "The Expanse." It will compete against "The Agency" and "JAG" on CBS, the pilot episode of Showtime's "Odyssey 5" and Fox's "24."
The other nomination for "Enterprise" came in Outstanding Makeup For A Series (Prosthetic) for the episode "Canamar." It will compete against "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" on CBS, "MADtv" on Fox, "Primetime Glick" on Comedy Central and "Six Feet Under" on HBO.
Winners will be announced Sept. 13. Over the years, Star Trek has had 31 Emmy wins, and did receive some rare mainstream nominations including Best Drama Series in 1967 and 1968 for "Star Trek" as well as in 1994 for "Star Trek: The Next Generation."
