Stewart: Star Trek XI Was In Works
Status of ideas there in question, however
There was so much confidence surrounding the latest Star Trek film when it was in production that talks apparently had already begun on what "Star Trek XI" would be all about.
Stewart recently told Dreamwatch magazine that hd had talked with "Star Trek: Nemesis" writer John Logan as well as actor Brent Spiner (Data) about a new Star Trek movie idea that would "push the Star Trek envelope."
"John Logan, who I admire enormously, and Brent and I have talked about an idea -- which I think is a brilliant idea -- for one more Star Trek movie," Stewart said. "It's totally unlike any other Star Trek movie: Something that would really shatter the format of it. But it would be a hard sell."
And an even harder sell now that "Nemesis" did poorly in the domestic box office during its December 2002 release. Stewart himself has said that he is no longer a part of the Star Trek franchise, and that the 10th film (and his fourth) was his last.
Stewart also had a few words to share about director Stuard Baird, and how he felt that "Nemesis" could've been handled differently.
"I think if ever there was a real need for an extended edition of any of the work we've done, it would be for 'Nemesis,'" Stewart said. "It wouldn't be a director's cut of the film -- that might be even shorter. But maybe an actors' cut."
