Buffy Nominated For Gaylactic Spectrum Awards
Episode said to help promote positive image of gays and lesbians
In the wake of the U.S. Supreme Court decision to overturn sodomy laws in Texas and possibly other states, the long-standing Gaylactic Network has released its annual nominees for the Gaylactic Spectrum Awards, which acknowledges works of fiction and other entertainment venues that has providede positive interest for gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgenders.
Among the finalists is the "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" episode "Seeing Red," written by Joss Whedon. The episode is the only television nominee in the bunch, and is competing in the Best Other Work category. That episode is against the academic work "Eyes of the God: The Weird Fiction and Poetry of R.J. Barlow," the anthology "Mind & Body," the anthology "Queer Fear II" and the anthology "Wired Hard 3."
The awards are presented by the independent Gaylactic Spectrum Awards Foundation, and will be presented at the World Science Fiction Convention in Toronto from Aug. 28 to Sept. 1.
