'Hulk' Tops Domestic Box Office
'Matrix Reloaded' stays in top 10
Comic book movies will be around for a while yet as the latest Marvel Comics installment has busted down box office doors.
"The Hulk," directed by "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" director Ang Lee, took the top spot at the box office over the weekend with a $62.6 million take. While that opening did put it behind similar openings from "Spider-Man" and "X2: X-Men United," it was larger than the original take by "X-Men" back in 1999 which pretty much started the latest comic book movie craze.
The film finished ahead of last week's No. 1, "Finding Nemo," the Disney/Pixar computer-animated film took in $20.5 million over the weekend to bring its overall total to $227.9 million. "2 Fast 2 Furious" broke the $100 million barrier with a $10.3 million weekend and third place.
"X2" fell off the top 10 chart, making less than the $4 million that "The Matrix Reloaded" chalked up. However, "Matrix" was able to hold the No. 10 spot and bring its overall domestic total to $264.5 million.
