'Matrix' Knocked Out Of Top Spot

However, 'Matrix' moves ahead of 'X2'

Jim Carrey may not be the king of dramas, but the actor proved to be the kind of comedies when his latest movie, "Bruce Almighty," knocked "The Matrix: Reloaded" out of the top spot in the American domestic box office this week.

"Bruce Almighty," which presents Carrey's character receiving the abilities of God, pulled in $86.4 million in its opening weekend, nearly doubling the take of "Reloaded," which earned $45.6 million last weekend. While that was a 60 percent drop from the previous week, it was still a huge weekend for "Reloaded" as it has now made $209.5 million domestically.

That number is enough to beat "X2: X-Men United," which has had an overall domestic gross of $192 million in two extra weeks at the box office. "X2" finished fourth with a $13.1 million take this week.

Dark Horizons reported that while "Reloaded" most likely can earn another $100 million in the box office, fans should not expect the film to get much past $300 million.
