How Shiny! A Firefly Movie?
Joss Whedon property doesn't look dead from here
Fox cancelled it before it could complete half a season. Other networks, including UPN, turned down the option of picking it up. But is the Joss Whedon series "Firefly" dead? Apparently not, according to its former star.
Nathan Fillion, who played Capt. Mal Reynolds in the series, and who is getting some strong air time as Caleb in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," told Sci-Fi Wire that "Firefly" is very much alive ... and it could be coming to a theater near you.
"Right now, our hopes and dreams are pinned on a 'Firefly' movie, which TV can't cancel us out of," Fillion recently said. "We're talking silver screen, wide release, big old deal. So everything's looking very positive, so we're going to keep our fingers crossed."
And who would put this movie together? Whedon, of course. Fillion said that the creator of "Buffy," "Firefly" and co-creator of "Angel" would write and direct a "Firefly" movie.
Also, if fans want to own "Firefly," they'll be able to do it pretty soon as Fox Home Video is set to release the 15 produced episodes of the series on DVD. And there will be one surprise in the DVD, the actor said.
"My naked ass is in them," he said. "In the very last episode. I'll let you know that much. They called me Capt. Tight Pants for some time. And now it's going to be Capt. No Pants for sure."
No release date for the DVD set has been made.
