SyFy Merges Newsletters

Star Trek Galactic Newsletter loses name

For five years, thousands of online readers have enjoyed the monthly installments of the Star Trek Galactic Newsletter. However, the days of that newsletter are coming to an end after Airlock Alpha announced a merger between that newsletter and the existing SyFy Galactic Newsletter.

The announcement comes after both newsletters have been offline for the last couple of months. However, Star Trek Galactic Newsletter founder Brian Meskimen will continue with the new SyFy newsletter in a new format.

SyFy has been associated directly with STGN since 1999, when it helped form a "family" of newsletters that included specific coverage of properties like "Star Wars," "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Earth: Final Conflict" (which was run by Airlock Alpha co-founder Michael Hinman). However, the work involved with running multiple newsletters was intense, and after a year, only the STGN remained.

Airlock Alpha has hosted the Web portion of STGN since 2001, and Meskimen helped launch the SyFy Galactic Newsletter last September.

The site will be merging the mailing list from STGN with SFGN, and SyFy will soon be accepting new free subscription requests for the e-mail based monthly newsletter. Other changes will be announced in the near future.

In the meantime, Meskimen is trying to gather a small group of writers who could write on a monthly or bi-monthly basis. Anyone interested in writing about the different properties covered by Airlock Alpha, can contact Meskimen at stgnpres@aol.com.
